Welcome Message from Derrick Low

Welcome to PROformance Hawaii!  Throughout my career, I am been blessed to have been guided and instructed by several individuals who have all had a huge impact on me as a player, and as a person.  Beginning with my dad, Clyde Hirata, Dennis Agena, Doc Mugiishi, Dick and Tony Bennett, Valdemaras Chomicius, Aziz Beker, all my fellow teammates -- they have all been instrumental in making me the player and person I am today.   PROformance Hawaii began as a dream and was created for the specific purpose of paying it forward.  Basketball can be a powerful tool to teach young athletes the skills and life lessons.  I hope to share as much as I can and be just one positive influences in their lives that will help them to improve -- not only as a player, but more importantly, as a person.  With that being said, thank you for visiting and please feel free to contact us.  Ask any questions you may have, and just let us know how PROformance Hawaii can help you become a PRO on and off the court.

Derrick Low
Owner/ President

Born and raised in Honolulu, Derrick started playing basketball at 6 years old.  His playing days began in Pauoa, as well as attending Kalakaua Clinic with Dennis Agena every Sunday.  After experiencing the feel of a basketball in his hands, he knew this is what he wanted to do.

As a seventh grader, Derrick was accepted into Iolani School where he was fortunate to play under local legendary high school coach, Mark (Doc) Mugiishi.  Under the guidance of Doc, Derrick and his highly successful and close teammates went on to win 4 LH titles and 3 State titles.  Derrick's play earned him 4 ILH Player of the Year and 3 State Player of the Year honors.  In 2004, Derrick was inducted into the Hawaii Nissan Hall of Honor.  After an unprecedented Hawaii high school career, Derrick went on to play for Washington State University in the prestigious Pac-10 conference.

As a four year starter, Derrick also found some success under father-son coaching duo, Dick and Tony Bennett.  As a junior and senior, Derrick made second and third team ALL Pac-10, respectively.  But the highlights of his college career would be the success found in the NCAA Tournament when WSU made it to the second round ('06-'07), followed by a Sweet Sixteen appearance ('07-'08) against the University of North Carolina.

Derrick's play did not go unnoticed, as he was invited to tryout for the USA Pan American team.  To his surprise, Derrick made the roster, and traveled to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil where he would don the "USA" across his chest.

After graduating from WSU, and several NBA workouts later, Derrick was blessed to participate in the NBA Summer league with the Dallas Mavericks.  But when one door closes, another one opens, which for Derrick, led him to a long professional career overseas.  Derrick's professional career overseas includes playing in Australia, France, Lithuania, Israel, Ukraine, Turkey, and Romania.

To Derrick, basketball has truly been a gift from God.  Not only has it taken him around the world, but it has also placed several people in his life, whom have all been influential to him as a player and person.  It is those same people whom are the reasons why he founded PROformance Hawaii.  To use Humility, Thankfulness, Passion, Unity and Servanthood in sharing his basketball experiences with others, so that they too can grow as players and most importantly, people.

Kyle's hard work, passion and love for the game allowed him to play at various levels around the world.  His passion now is coaching and teaching the game of basketball to the younger generations, and hopefully helping to create opportunities for others to achieve their goals and dreams.

Kelii Bandmann
Player Development Consultant

Born and raised on the island of Kauai, Kelii started playing basketball at the age of 6. He started playing youth basketball for the Kalaheo Stars where he learned basic fundamentals and found the passion for playing basketball.

To further develop his basketball skills, Kelii attended Kamehameha Schools.  While at Kamehameha Schools, he was part of a State Championship team for both Volleyball and Basketball while earning All-State honors his junior and senior year in Volleyball.

After high school, he was recruited to play Division I Volleyball at the University of Pacific in Stockton, California.  There, he realized his passion was basketball and decided to return home to UH to walk-on the basketball team.  Due to an NCAA transfer rule, he was only allowed to practice with the team and not play in the games.  He would spend lat night hours after regular practices working on his basketball skills with an individual development coach.  After 9 months of hard work, he earned a full scholarship to play at Brown Mackie Junior College in Kansas City, Missouri.  He played one year earning all conference honors averaging 25 ppg and was one of the top three point shooters in the country - making 127 three pointers on 42% shooting from the three point line.  His playing ability and 4.0 GPA earned him multiple Division 1 offers from around the country.  He accepted a scholarship at the University of Texas Pan American where he started his junior and senior years and earned a degree in Economics and Finance.

Kelii's passion is helping kids get better each and every day not only as players, but as people.  He has been a strength and conditioning coach for the past 4 years.  He has also been an individual basketball skills development coach.  His quote to live by is "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."
